Environmental Contracting

Matrix is an established environmental consulting firm with engineering capabilities.

Remedial Pilot Testing

METI has mobile remediation systems available on a rental basis to meet your pilot testing needs.  Our technicians mobilize, setup, and operate the equipment and have the sampling equipment and instrumentation to collect data critical to the success of the testing.  Systems available include:

  • Groundwater pump and treat
  • Soil vapor extraction
  • Air sparging
  • Oxygen injection
  • Total-phase extraction
  • Vacuum-enhanced groundwater extraction

Vapor Mitigation

Vapor mitigation systems maintain indoor air quality through the reduction and/or removal of hazardous vapors, volatile organic compounds, and other soil gases.  Almost all structures, both residential and commercial, are susceptible to vapor intrusion, regardless of foundation type.  The goal of vapor mitigation is to reduce vapor concentrations in indoor air to levels considered safe for human occupation.

Matrix designs and installs sub-slab depressurization systems (SSDSs) as a turnkey service, as a subcontractor to consulting/engineering firms and for sites in the NYSDEC Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP).  We also install SSDSs in occupied buildings as part of site remediation and redevelopment projects.   In New York we conduct assessments and install mitigation systems under the guidance of the Department of Health (DOH).

We are experienced with the following in both new and existing buildings:

  • Soil vapor intrusion (SVI) assessments
  • SSDS pilot testing, design and engineering certification
  • SSDS installation, testing and engineering certification
  • Fan/blower selection and installation
  • Air treatment design and installation
  • Sub-slab dewatering design and installation
  • Remedial technology selection and implementation in vapor sensitive locations

Soil Excavation

METI offers soil excavation services ranging from test pitting during site characterization to large-scale remedial excavations.  Our operators boast over 50-years’ combined industry experience and have the necessary training and knowledge to tackle any situation, including spill response.  METI can meet the pre-characterization needs of your excavation project with our direct-push services and our staff of engineers can assist with your remedial planning.  During your project, METI can support your dewatering and water treatment requirements and assist with off-site soil transportation and disposal through our large vendor network.

Water Treatment Service

METI offers on-site treatment of groundwater during aquifer pumping tests, UST removal and installation, foundation and site work, and soil excavation.  On-site treatment can save thousands of dollars per project when compared to off-site disposal. METI offers several treatment systems consisting of air strippers, submersible pumps, automated controls, and carbon vessels.  Typical systems are mounted in enclosed trailers for operation in any conditions and to facilitate mobilization and demobilization.  We mobilize, setup and operate, on a cost per gallon of water treated or rental basis.

Remedial System Installations

METI has installed hundreds of in situ remedial systems throughout New York State and the northeast.  Whether designed by METI or another firm, we have the experience, knowledge, and equipment to ensure your system meets the most stringent specifications.  A project manager is assigned to each installation and is responsible for all aspects of the project, beginning with costing, planning, and material procurement and continuing with the oversight of trenching and system installation.  Our team of technicians are experts in plumbing, electrical, and system controls.  At the end of each project, METI can prepare and submit as-built drawings and project closeout documents signed and stamped by a New York State licensed engineer.

Operation & Maintenance

Operation and maintenance has been at the core of METI’s service offerings for over 28 years.  Our skilled technicians have successfully operated all types of remediation systems, including oxygen injection systems, air sparge/soil vapor extraction systems, dual-phase extraction systems, vacuum enhanced groundwater extraction systems, and groundwater pump and treat systems.  Our engineers and project managers routinely evaluate system data and communicate with the technicians to ensure that systems are operating at their fullest potential and to maximize system efficiency.  When things do go wrong, our technicians have the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing knowledge to troubleshoot and repair your system with minimal downtime.

In addition to the above, METI also offers routine groundwater monitoring services, both as a stand-alone service and in conjunction with system operation and maintenance.  We are trained and equipped for many soil and groundwater sampling techniques, including low-flow groundwater sampling.

Construction Oversight

Matrix has a team of project managers that are dedicated to making sure projects are completed on-time and on-budget.  We have successfully completed hundreds of projects of varying complexity ranging from simple UST removals to the design, installation, and operation of large-scale remediation systems.  We pride ourselves on our ability to operate in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, which ensures that the inevitable changes and obstacles that are encountered during a project are handled swiftly and efficiently. By investing heavily in the early phases of a project through proper planning, stakeholder and regulatory involvement, and the development of clear and measurable objectives, we have proven our ability to deliver high-quality results while avoiding the scheduling and budget pitfalls that ensnare and plague many projects.  The capabilities of our staff coupled with our extensive and diverse experience enable us to consistently complete projects on-time and on-budget.

Paramount to any project is the health and safety of our employees, our clients, and the public.  By participating in ISNetworld and Avetta safety auditing, METI has made health and safety a core tenet of our operations with the goal of total elimination of accidents, injury, occupational illness, and property damage.  A site-specific health and safety plan (HASP) is developed for every site, identifying the hazards and risks associated with the project.  All management and supervisory personnel are charged with the responsibility for planning safety into each work task and for preventing the occurrences of incidents and/or controlling conditions/actions that could lead to occupational injuries or illnesses.  All our staff are Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 40-hour HAZWOPER trained and receive annual 8-hour refresher training.  Many of our staff have additional training, including construction safety training, confined space training, and first aid.  We conduct routine safety meetings as well as job-site safety inspections and daily toolbox talks to promote the culture of safety in the workplace.

Industrial Services

Matrix provides a variety of services to support a range of industrial applications, including:

  • Confined space entry and rescue
  • Troubleshooting, repair, and replacement of pumps, motors, and electrical controls
  • Conveyance pipe cleaning and installation
  • Utility clearing
  • Oil-water separator cleaning

All our staff have OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training and our site supervisors have completed 10-hour OSHA construction supervisor training.  Many of our technicians are current with specialized training, including confined space entry and rescue, forklift and aerial lift operations, lockout/tagout, and CPR/first aid.  We are a certified contractor in both ISNetworld and Avetta.
